IT WAS GREAT WEATHER AND A GOOD CROWD FOR THE 2006 SEASON OPENER AT THE NORMAN COUNTY RACEWAY IN ADA, MINNESOTA THURSDAY NIGHT. RYAN AHO OUTLASTED KYLE PETERLIN (LAST YEARS POINT CHAMPION) TO WIN THE SUPERSTOCK FEATURE AND BROCK GRONWOLD OVERTOOK LAST YEARS N.C.R. POINTS CHAMPION TRAVIS SAUER TO WIN THE MIDWEST MOD'S FEATURE HIGHLIGHTING THE SIX CLASSES OF RACING.

FOR THE FIRST TIME, NOPA FOUR CYLINDER PURE STOCKS RACED AT THE NORMAN COUNTY RACEWAY. THE FIELD OF FOUR CARS SAW NICK AUDETTE WIN THE FEATURE FOLLOWED BY AARON KAPPES OF ADA. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME RACING FOR KAPPES WHO HAS DRIVEN IN THE ROAD HOGS EVENT PREVIOUSLY FOR HIS RACING EXPERIENCE. KAPPES IS A SENIOR AT ADA-BORUP HIGH SCHOOL. IN THE HEAT, SCOTT BECKMAN OF MAHNOMEN TOOK THE CHECKERED FLAG FOLLOWED BY KAPPES, MARCUS LUNDON OF MAHNOMEN AND AUDETTE.

IN THE NOPA PURE STOCKS, DEAN LUNDON OF MAHNOMEN WAS RACING WITH BRAD LEE AND FRANCIS LUNDON FOR THE LEAD, AFTER NINE LAPS, SEVERAL OF THE LEAD CARS CHASING LUNDON GOT INTO A "TANGLE-UP"... AFTER THE CAUTION RE-START, LUNDON HELD THE LEAD WITH ANDY KAPPES OF ADA AND BILL OXTON TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE RE-START TO FINISH IN THE TOP THREE.

THEIR WERE 21 CARS IN THE MOD FOURS FEATURE, WITH JESSE YARMAN TAKING ADVANTAGE OF A CAUTION RE-START AFTER 10 LAPS.. YARMAN RACED PAST LEADER CODY SUNDE ON THE RE-START AND HELD ON FOR THE VICTORY.

THE MIDWEST MODS FEATURE HAD 17 CARS AND ENTERTAINED THE CROWD WITH HARD RACING AND LATE LAP LEAD CHANGES. LAST YEARS N.C.R. POINTS CHAMP, TRAVIS SAUER DROVE THE 21X TO THE LEAD FOR THE FIRST NINE LAPS. ON THE NEXT LAP, JASON GRIMES WHO HAS MOVED UP FROM THE STREETS CLASS LAST YEAR, DROVE HIS #99 CAR ON THE TOP SIDE OF THE TRACK WHILE SAUER AND BROCK GRONWOLD RACED IN FRONT OF HIM. WITH SLOWER TRAFFIC STAYING DOWN BELOW, GRIMES TOOK ADVANTAGE AND PASSED THE TWO CARS IN FRONT OF HIM, HOWEVER, BAD LUCK OCCURED BEHIND GRIMES WHEN THREE CARS GOT INTO A COLLISION... WITH THE LAP NOT BEING COMPLETED, THE YELLOW CAUTION RE-START WENT BACK TO THE LAST COMPLETED LAP WITH SAUER AND GRONWOLD RACING ONE, TWO. ON THE RE-START, GRONWOLD WAS THE ONE WHO WOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE, HE HIT IT HARD AND BEAT SAUER TO THE FIRST CORNER, "NOSED TO THE BOTTOM" AND HELD THE LINE TO GO IN FRONT OF SAUER AND LED THE FINAL FIVE LAPS FOR THE FEATURE WIN, HIS FIRST AT NORMAN COUNTY RACEWAY.

IN THE SUPERSTOCKS, RYAN AHO OUTDUELED KYLE PETERLIN TO WIN THE FEATURE. ON THE FINAL LAP AS AHO WAS TAKING THE CHECKERED FLAG, PETERLIN AND THE NEXT SEVERAL CARS COLLIDED OUT OF TURN FOUR. OFFICIALS RULED THE SECOND PLACE TO PETERLIN FOLLOWED BY PAUL ENGELSTAD, BRENT PAULSKAMP, ROD PETERSON.

IN THE MODIFIEDS, RICKY JACOBSON LED GREEN FLAG TO CHECKERED FLAG IN THE FIFTEEN LAP FEATURE FOR THE WIN. THE GREEN FLAG STAYED OUT FOR ALL FIFTEEN LAPS WITH NO CAUTION FLAGS.
